My obsession with the band Weezer is no secret. And if you know me/were within 10 feet of me yesterday, you know I got chosen by 94.5 The Buzz to play in the “Hootenanny” during Weezer’s concert this Thursday night at Reliant Arena!
Weezer has been holding “hootenannies” all over the country over the past few months, even before their Troublemaker Tour began. They invite a certain number of fans playing any and all instruments—not just guitars, we’re talking tubas, recorders, whatever—to join the band in playing a few Weezer songs at old-fashioned musical get-togethers. During the tour, they’ve continued the hootenannies in bringing musically-inclined fans to the stage during their encore to play a couple of classics. For the Houston show, The Buzz indicated they were filling a total of 30 spots, divided among guitars, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Contestants had to submit to the radio station a short video of themselves playing “Island in the Sun” and/or “Beverly Hills” on their instrument of choice, and the winners would get to join the band on stage to play both songs at the concert on Thursday.
Um, yours truly will be representing the oboe section!!!
Who plays the oboe?? I play the oboe. Back in the day, I was in band. And orchestra. And marching band. Don’t judge.
So for the next couple of days I’ll be enjoying my spot on cloud nine, and praying I don’t pass out! I’m ridiculously excited! If you’ll be at the show, be on the lookout for my debut, and please don’t laugh if I faint. Lawyer + rockstar??
