Big Apple

October 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

In two short weeks (on Halloween, to be exact!), I’ll be headed off to an extended weekend in New York City. My husband will be running the NYC Marathon on November 2, so we are taking a Friday-through-Monday mini vacation to enjoy a couple of extra days off and soak up a little of the Big Apple in fall. We’ve had our trip planned since June, when he found out he was accepted to the race—so we’re very excited that after months of waiting (and months of training, on his part), it’s finally just around the corner!

While I’ll certainly not be joining in running the marathon, I’ll very happily be cheering on the dedicated runners from the sidelines, hot cocoa/NYC hot dog/H&M shopping bag in-hand. This will be my husband’s second marathon, as he ran the Houston race in 2007. I’m enormously proud of his dedication, and thrilled he gets the chance to achieve a dream in running this race. I’m just excited to be going along for the pain-free, exertion-free ride.

I visited New York City twice as a teenager, but haven’t been in almost a decade. I’ve always wanted to see the city in the fall, and now as an adult, I’m also very eager to check out the nightlife. There are so many spots I want to visit—I don’t know how much we’ll be able to squeeze into our short trip. Thank goodness we’ve both done all the touristy sight-seeing before, so no photo ops at the top of the Empire State Building this time! Bring on the great food, high-priced drinks, and frivolity.

Any suggestions for must-sees or must-dos, please let me know!
